How to book the Narita Express

Where you can reserve and buy
There are 2 ways to ride the Narita Express: (1) using tickets (basic fare ticket + limited express ticket) and (2) using a pass. Limited express tickets can be reserved and bought at the following places.
| Where | Details |
|---|---|
| Eki-net (JR East's online reservation service) | Conventional Line Ticketless Limited Express Ticket. You can ride without picking up a reserved-seat limited express ticket |
| Stations | JR EAST Travel Service Center, JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi), reserved seat ticket vending machines |
| JR-EAST Train Reservation | Tickets can be reserved and bought from outside Japan |
A basic fare ticket is required separately
Eki-net's Conventional Line Ticketless Limited Express Ticket is a "reserved-seat limited express ticket" only. For the basic fare, use a transportation IC card or Mobile Suica, or buy a paper ticket (commuter passes can also be used).
When you can book the Narita Express

Reserved-seat limited express tickets for the Narita Express can be bought from one month before the boarding date.
| Method | When you can reserve and buy |
|---|---|
| Eki-net (Conventional Line Ticketless Limited Express Ticket) | From 10:00 one month before the boarding date until the departure time of the train on the boarding date (the time in the timetable) and no later than 23:50 |
| Eki-net advance reservation request | From 14:00 one month and one week before (same day of the week) until 9:54 one month before the boarding date |
| Stations | From one month before boarding |
Eki-net advance reservation request
If you choose a date before tickets go on sale, the request automatically becomes an "advance reservation request". Up to a third choice can be entered per request. Advance reservation requests do not guarantee a seat.
Booking on the day
On the day of travel, applying for, changing and refunding Conventional Line Ticketless Limited Express Tickets is possible from 5:00 to 23:50, and until the departure time of the train.
How to book on Eki-net

4 steps to apply
You need to register as an Eki-net member to apply.
- On the Eki-net top page, select "JR Tickets", enter the departure and arrival stations, date, time and number of people, and press "Search for trains".

- For the ticket type, choose "Other tickets" (not needed for trains not covered by Eki-net Q-Ticket).
- For the seat type, choose "Reserved seat" or "Green", then choose a conventional line ticketless product.
Payment
Payment is only by the credit card registered with Eki-net. Payment is completed when the application is completed. Convenience store payment, bank payment and payment at the station cannot be used.
When you ride
- There are no on-board ticket inspections.
- If the conductor or station staff ask to see your limited express ticket, log in to Eki-net and show the application history details page in My Page.

- You cannot apply for "children" only.
- If you cannot show your booking because your smartphone is broken, out of battery or similar, you pay for a limited express ticket at the on-board price. The cost of the original booking is refunded minus a fee.

Can you ride the Narita Express without a reservation?

All seats on the Narita Express are reserved, and you cannot ride with a non-reserved limited express ticket. To ride without choosing a seat, use an "unreserved seat ticket".
Unreserved seat ticket
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| What it is | A limited express ticket that specifies only the boarding date and section, not the train or seat |
| Price | The same as the reserved-seat limited express charge |
| When the train is full | You can buy it even when the train is full. In that case, use the deck or similar areas. No refund is given because the train is full |
| Where to sit | Empty seats in ordinary cars. Green Cars cannot be used |
| Reserving a train and seat | Once you decide which train to take, you can reserve a train and seat at no extra charge |
If a passenger with a seat reservation comes, give up the seat.
Buying a limited express ticket on board
If your section includes Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station or Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station, there is no on-board surcharge. If you buy a limited express ticket on board, you also use empty seats in ordinary cars.

If you want to take a train earlier than the one you reserved, change your booking to that train in My Page before boarding.
